Framer Construction Jobs: How Remote Sensing Technology Can Revolutionize Woodland Management

The world of forestry and ecosystem management is on the cusp of a significant transformation with the integration of remote sensing technology. The current myForest tool, operated by Sylva Foundation, will be developed as a prototype to enable more effective mapping and planning of tree resources on-farm, including hedgerows and agroforestry features. This innovative approach aims to engage farmers in woodland management and trees on-farm, testing the benefits of woodland and trees as part of their farm enterprise.

The project will develop and test a 'Whole Farm Tree Plan' (WFTP) that empowers farmers to better understand the advantages of woodland and trees within their farm operations. By aiding the management and development of woodlands and their natural assets, this initiative aims to provide more accurate, detailed, and informative data for woodland managers, auditors, blended finance, and regulators.

The use of satellites, crewed planes, drones, LiDAR, multispectral, thermal detection, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will be employed in forestry and ecosystem management, connecting the space, forestry, and technology sectors. This trial aims to observe and verify woodland assets and threats, including carbon, timber, biodiversity, pests, and disease.

Currently, auditing of new and existing woodlands and associated habitats relies on 'boots on the ground' techniques. However, this project seeks to revolutionize the way we monitor and manage woodlands by harnessing the power of remote sensing technology. With its potential to gather more accurate data, depth, and regularity, this innovative approach has the potential to transform the forestry and ecosystem management sector.

By leveraging remote sensing techniques, woodland managers can gain a better understanding of the benefits of woodland and trees on-farm, ultimately leading to improved decision-making and enhanced woodlands management. As the project develops, it is likely that new opportunities for investment will emerge, driving innovation and growth in the forestry and ecosystem management sector.
